Cologne – Melzo v.v. added to Kombiverkehr network
(Frankfurt/Main, 12 April 2022) Kombiverkehr KG is expanding its train products with a new north-south route via Gotthard. From 25 April a direct train service to and from Melzo in northern Italy is being added to the Köln-Eifeltor terminal. With this new product, the Frankfurt-based company is now expanding its range of services to and from Italy within Europe’s largest intermodal network to over 260 train departures every week. The target destination in Melzo is the Rail Hub Milano. “The terminal’s geographical location some 25 kilometres to the east of Milan makes it a proven starting point and destination for the initial and final road legs for goods and products to and from the trading and industrial concerns in the Milan economic region. With a journey time of just 20 hours, we are giving forwarders the possibility of a rapid and also absolutely eco-friendly transport chain,” says Peter Dannewitz, Head of Sales at Kombiverkehr KG, highlighting two particular features of the new product. A round trip for a cargo of 25 tonnes saves some 2.6 tonnes of CO2, which represents a saving of over 80 per cent compared with end-to-end transport by road. The trains will run on Mondays to Fridays in both directions. In addition to containers and swap bodies, semitrailers with a P400 profile can also be booked on the service. From Cologne onward services provide access to Hamburg, the German Baltic Sea ports of Kiel and Lübeck as well as terminals in Denmark and Sweden.
With a new direct train service between Köln-Eifeltor and Melzo in northern Italy starting on 25 April, Kombiverkehr KG is expanding its product range on routes between Germany and Italy via Gotthard alongside connections to northern Europe.
